CTIA New Domestic Arrivals Terminal
The New Domestic Arrivals Terminal adds to the existing Central Terminal Building at Cape Town International Airport. A reconfigured baggage reclaim hall and meeters and greeters concourse aim to rejuvenate passenger experience while the upper levels allow for the expansion of Domestic Departures operations and the addition of airline lounges.
The New Domestic Arrivals project was launched by ACSA to address increasing domestic demand at Cape Town International Airport and reinvigorate passenger experience and satisfaction on par with international standards.
The new terminal consists of a basement servicing all floors above including; a reconfigured baggage
reclaim hall on ground floor with additional carousels running in parallel to a new meeters and greeters concourse. Both are visually connected with double volume glazing to create a seamless experience between landside and airside spaces.
The double volume second floor future proofs the building, allowing the Domestic Departures to expand its retail offering, and allowing new landside operational spaces to link into the existing Central Terminal Building. The double volume provides the potential for third floor airline lounges with panoramic views to the Hottentots Mountains.
The design aims to pay homage to the existing Central Terminal Building, while introducing a new contemporary language influenced by international
precedent.
