The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) project has upgraded the existing intensive care facilities
and increased the number of beds available for patients. The building houses the PICU, neonatal high care and associated support facilities and
offices for staff.
The scope of this project included the complete renovation of the existing wing of the hospital, fitting out of the building shell built previously, and
new building work. The project was split into two phases to allow the facility to continue functioning during construction.
The C floor includes 29 PICU beds and 10 neonatal beds. These numbers include nine isolation beds, which will significantly reduce the risk of cross infection. All of these state-of-the art clinical wards have been located on the C floor to maintain a close relationship to the operating theatres.
The D floor includes the offices and supporting staff functions. It is beneficial that these supporting areas are located away from the clinical areas so that the staff have a calm area providing relief from the intensity of PICU wards.
