Architectural CompetitionBEE STATUS
KMH Architects cc, although currently 90% white owned, has a 55% PDI staff complement and has a certified BEE rating of 3. This achievement is largely as a result of an ongoing mentoring, investment and support role which KMH Architects offers to disadvantaged students. KMH believes in meaningful broad-based empowerment, which requires long-term commitment and trust. In March 2000, KMH Architects formed a new company with wholly black owned Jonker and Barnes Architects, called Blueprint Architects (Pty) Ltd. Blueprint has a 50% black shareholding and executive management component. Blueprint has a certified rating of 2. The joint venture has successfully completed major projects for Old Mutual, The Airports Company of South Africa, and the University of the Western Cape. Blueprint has recently completed the new CTIA Central Terminal Building to great acclaim.
SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE
Green design principles are often common sense decisions, and KMH Architects has employed many of these principles as a matter of course in our projects. The new rating and accreditation system introduced to South Africa recently, has helped focus the industry on green methods and systems.KMH Architects' Partner, Wayne. R. Mansfield is a SA Green Star Accredited Professional with the Green Building Council of South Africa, and has worked on numerous energy efficient projects in South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, and the Republic of Ireland. This enables KMH to offer an additional architectural design service and knowledge in line with the GBCSA Green Design Rating Principles.
