V&A Waterfront Alfred Mall

The decision to redevelop The Alfred Mall was motivated by its outdated appearance and declining appeal to tenants and patrons. Housed on the ground floor of a century-old building originally designed for Harbour operations, it is flanked by the Victoria Alfred Hotel and the La Parada restaurant, with the hotel suites occupying the upper floors.

The unique conceptual design drew inspiration from the historic building, incorporating heritage elements prevalent in the Victorian era of the Waterfront precinct. Notable bespoke features included beautifully crafted curved glass shopfronts made from aluminium and steel, which defined the mall's aesthetic.

Expanding beyond the original dimensions, the internal and external shopfronts reflect the influence of Victorian and Parisian high street stores. The expansion aimed to maximize tenant exposure, showcase merchandise, and create a vibrant atmosphere.

The mall's trading environment was adorned with a dark Terrazzo tile, meticulously laid throughout the tenancies, seamlessly connecting the common areas. This cohesive tile design enhanced the overall look and feel, providing a harmonious and visually appealing space despite distinct shopfronts.
